SIXTH GRADE & NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION
Orientation for incoming sixth graders and any other student new to Grand Blanc West Middle School will take place in the gym on Tuesday, August 16th. Please feel free to drop in at any time between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to meet with staff members and pick up important information.
SEVENTH GRADE BASKETBALL
Daily practices take place from 3:15 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The coach is Mr. Dan Morey.

The end-of-season party will take place right after the staff vs. students' game on Thursday, March 2nd, and will end at 5:30 p.m.
ROBOTICS
Team X will practice every Thursday from 3:15 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in room 121.

The end-of-season party for all three teams will take place on Friday, February 10th, from 3:15 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. in room 121.
WASHINGTON, D.C. TRIP MEETING
Any eighth grader going on the Washington, D.C. trip in March should attend an informational meeting on Thursday, February 9th, at 5:30 p.m. at East Middle School. The meeting will be held in the gym. This meeting will cover the trip itinerary and information about the trip, such as what to pack, along with expectations concerning student behavior and the dress code.
FUNAPALOOZA
The first Funapalooza event for this year will take place on Friday, October 21st, from 3:15 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Funapalooza is an after-school event for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade West Middle School students. The cost to attend is $5 and concessions are sold for an additional cost. Funapalooza includes inflatable fun, a dance in the cafetorium with a live DJ, plus an open gym. All students must have a ride home at 5:00 p.m.
7TH GRADE SOFTBALL
Daily practices take place from 3:15 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The coach is Mr. Joe Willett.
SCHEDULE PICK-UP
Schedule pick-up for the 2016-2017 school year will take place on Tuesday, August 16th, from 8:30 a.m. until noon, 1:00-4:00 p.m., and 5:00-7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, August 17th, from 8:30 a.m. until noon.

School pictures will be taken and ID cards issued at these times. If you are unable to attend schedule pick-up on these dates, schedules will also be available in the Main Office from August 22nd through September 1st although photos and ID cards will not be available.

Additional opportunities for school pictures and ID cards will present themselves during Open House on Tuesday, August 30th, and on Picture Day on Friday, September 9th.

Any student with an outstanding book or equipment fine will not receive a class schedule until the fine is paid or the materials returned.
VOLLEYBALL
Practices take place daily from 3:15 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The eighth grade coach is Karly Cocke and the seventh grade coach is Virginia Choe.
WRESTLING
Beginning Tuesday, November 1st, daily practices begin and these will start at 3:15 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. Your ride home on practice days must be here no later than fifteen minutes after the end of practice. The coaches are Gregg Mulholland and Chris Dellorso.
VOLLEYBALL
Volleyball practices daily from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The eighth grade coach is Karly Cocke and the seventh grade coach is Virginia Choe.
GRIEF CAMP
"The Medical Team Hospice" is offering a free camp for children ages 6-16 at Covenant Hills Camp on June 3rd and 4th from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. There will be several activities for the children including swimming, arts and crafts, and a rock-climbing wall. The camp is free and transportation is available, if needed. Meals and snacks are provided. Please contact your child's counselor for more information.
2017-2018 POM SQUAD
There will be a meeting for pom squad members and their parents on Wednesday, May 31st, in the lecture hall. The meeting will take place at 5:00 p.m.
TENNIS
Any eighth grader that is interested in playing tennis at the high school next year should attend an informational meeting at West Middle School on Wednesday, May 17th, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The meeting will take place in the cafetorium. Any sixth or seventh grade student that is interested in participating in a middle school program should also attend this meeting as that program is quickly developing.
HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS
Any eighth grade girl that is interested in trying out for the high school cheerleading squad should attend an important meeting on Wednesday, May 17th, at West High School. The meeting will take place in the cafeteria at West High School and it will begin at 6:30 p.m.
2017-2018 DATES
For those of you that like to plan ahead, here are some important dates for the 2017-2018 school year (also available by clicking the CALENDAR link on the menu at the top of the page):

MONDAY, AUGUST 7TH: The Main Office reopens at 7:30 a.m. Enrollments take place from 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 16TH: Schedule pick-up from 8:30 a.m. - noon, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. We will have photographers in the lecture hall taking ID and yearbook pictures during these times.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 17TH: Schedule pick-up from 8:30 a.m. until noon. We will have photographers in the lecture hall taking ID and yearbook pictures during this time.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 18TH - THURSDAY, AUGUST 31ST: Schedules may be picked up in the Main Office from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. daily. There will be NO photographers taking pictures on these days - schedule pick-up only.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 29TH: Open House from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Photographers will be in the lecture hall taking ID and yearbook pictures from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5TH: First Day of School and a FULL day of school

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH: Picture Day from 8:10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Photographers will be taking pictures of any students not already photographed during Schedule Pick-Up or Open House. They will only stay as long as this process requires.
BOOK & EQUIPMENT FINES
Any student with an outstanding book, material, or sports equipment fine will not be able to pick up a 2017-2018 class schedule. This applies to both the middle school and the high school. All fines must be paid in the Main Office of Grand Blanc West Middle School.
GIRLS' BASKETBALL 2017

Practices/tryouts will take place the weeks of August 21st and August 28th, Monday through Thursday, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. each day. The seventh grade coach will be Ms. Kylie Welch and the eighth grade coach will be Mr. Rob McRae.
CROSS COUNTRY 2017
Cross Country will begin on Monday, August 21st. Conditioning will take place the weeks of August 21st and August 28th, Monday through Thursday, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. each day. If you are unable to attend one of both weeks of practice, you MUST notify the Athletic Office in advance. A physical dated on or after April 15, 2017 is required to participate. The coaches are Mrs. Mary Kennedy-Jacob and Mrs. Cari Shephard.
FOOTBALL 2017
Seventh and eighth grade football will begin on Monday, August 21st. Conditioning and practices will take place the weeks of August 21st (3:30-5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and August 28th, (3:30-5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday). Three days of conditioning are mandatory and a uniform will not be issued to any player that has not met this requirement. If you are unable to attend one or both of these weeks, you MUST notify the Athletic Office in advance. A physical dated on or after April 15, 2017 is needed in order to participate. The seventh grade coaches are Tom Whitt and Joe Zarzycki. The eighth grade coaches will Jason Freeman and Shawn Kingsland.
CHEERLEADING 2017
Seventh and eighth grade football cheerleaders should watch for correspondence from Coach Kina Hetherington regarding summer programs and fall practices. Remember that you must have a physical dated on or after April 15, 2017 in order to attend any summer programs or fall practices.
